Company plants 1,000 trees in park under green campaign

 

CANON Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has successfully planted 1,000 trees at Taman Setia Impian (Western Park) in Shah Alam as part of its “One Canon One Tree” campaign held from July 1 to Oct 31.The aim of the campaign was to have one tree planted whenever a Canon multifunction device is sold. Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd president and chief executive officer Andrew Koh said the company wanted to find ways to give back to society. “In terms of helping to reduce pollution, tree planting is one good way,” he said, adding that the company also encouraged its customers to print on both sides of the paper to reduce paper usage.Canon’s campaign was to complement the Shah Alam Tree For Life programme organised by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to achieve the status of low carbon city by 2030.Shah Alam deputy mayor Shukri Mohamad Hamin said the city council aimed to plant 80,000 trees and had so far planted 60,000.“Canon’s contribution will help us reach our goal. This tree planting initiative will help us reach the status of a low carbon city,” he said.Under the collaboration, the trees planted by Canon will be managed by MBSA.A total of 300 participants took part in the tree planting event in Western Park, including MBSA officers, Canon staff with their families, and Canon’s corporate customers.Canon senior supervisor Jimmy Yeoh brought his family, including his father, to participate in helping the environment.“We show our love to the environment by making it greener.“There’s a lot of pollution nowadays so we must try our best to make a difference,” said Yeoh.
