National Science Day

 

The National Science Day was celebrated by the CSIR-NBRI on March 02,2015. The day was observed as “Open Day” when its various laboratories,viz, Exposition, Herbarium, Library, Boatnic Garden, various R&D Laboratories were visited by a large number  of students from various local schools and colleges. Padma Shri Prof. R.C Sobti, Vice Chancellor, Baba Saheb Bheemrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, India, was the Chief Guest of the function and delivered the National Science Day Lecture. Scientists, researchers and students were present on the occasion. In the welcome address, Dr.CS Nautiyal , Director, CSIR-NBRI highlighted the importance of the Science Day and briefed the audience about NBRI’s achievements in plant science research in the past few years. Prof. R.C.Sobti, in his lecture on “Stem cells everybody would like to know”, mentioned that,as in plants, a complete plant can be regenerated from cells by tissue culture.In similar way animal cells also have the potential to form different organs or even a new life.He cited  several example, like a domestic lizard can regenerate its tail on being cut, and about the emerging  technology to regenerate the different crucial organs, like in kidney, liver, heart,etc. From human umbilical cord blood cells.
